Η σημαντικότερη Επιστημονική Επανάσταση: σαν σήμερα, 24 Νοεμβρίου 1859, ο Κάρολος Δαρβίνος δημοσιεύει το μνημειώδες έργο του «Η καταγωγή των ειδών». Η οποία έμελλε να αλλάξει τη βιολογική και φιλοσοφική θεώρηση της ζωής. Γιατί, όπως λέει και ο Dobrhansky, «τίποτα στη Βιολογία δεν έχει νόημα χωρίς το φως της εξέλιξης». “My name’s John Ford. I make Westerns”
Δεκαετία του ’50. Στο Σωματείο Σκηνοθετών (Directors Guild of America) την εποχή του «μακκαρθισμού» μια κλίκα με επικεφαλής τον Cecil B. DeMille πίεζε ασφυκτικά τα μέλη να υπογράψουν δήλωση νομιμοφροσύνης ενάντια στον «φιλο-σοσιαλιστή» τότε πρόεδρο Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
Τελικά η Γενική Συνέλευση συγκλήθηκε. Η ομάδα που επηρέαζε ο Cecil B. DeMille εκφωνούσε λόγους ατέλειωτους, ο ίδιος δε (ο Cecil B. DeMille) έβγαλε λόγο διάρκειας τεσσάρων ωρών(!) που θα ζήλευε και ο Φιντέλ Κάστρο. Όπως αναφέρει ο Mankiewicz, όλοι αναρωτιόντουσαν τι σκεφτόταν και τι θα πει -και αν θα πει κάτι- ο John Ford ως μία από τις μεγάλες τότε προσωπικότητες του Σωματείου, ώστε να επηρεασθούν από αυτόν. Όταν επιτέλους τέλειωσε το λογίδριό του ο Cecil B. DeMille επικράτησε μια βουβή παγωμάρα ενός περίπου λεπτού·και τότε ο… John Ford σήκωσε το χέρι του και είπε: “My name’s John Ford. I make Westerns” («Τ’όνομά μου είναι John Ford. Κάνω γουέστερν») και συνέχισε: I don’t think there’s anyone in this room who knows more about what the American public wants than Cecil B. DeMille — and he certainly knows how to give it to them…. [looking at DeMille] But I don’t like you, C.B. I don’t like what you stand for and I don’t like what you’ve been saying here tonight.” (δεν υπάρχει κανείς σε αυτή την αίθουσα που να ξέρει περισσότερα για το τι θέλει το Αμερικάνικο κοινό από τον Cecil B. DeMille» Ύστερα [κοιτώντας τον DeMille] «Όμως δεν μ’ αρέσεις, κι ούτε μ’ άρεσαν αυτά που είπες εδώ απόψε). «Ας δώσουμε τώρα ψήφο εμπιστοσύνης στον Joe (Mankiewicz) κι ας πάμε σπίτι μας να κοιμηθούμε.» -Όπως κι έγινε!

Εἰς τήν βουλήν μέ ἔστειλε νῆσός τις ὀνομαζομένη Κέως, παράγουσα τό πάλαι λυρικούς ποιητάς καί σήμερον τυρία και βουλευτάς. Θα ἤμην ὡραῖος ἂν δεν ἤμην ἄσχημος. Ἐπί τοῦ παρόντος δέν ἔχω οὔτε δικαιώματα εἰς ἀθανασίαν, οὔτε χρήματα περιττά διά ν᾿ ἀγοράσω.
